Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport clinch their first win of 2017

What an eventful Chinese Grand Prix! The Pure Pit Wall was working non-stop throughout all 56 laps and also correctly predicted the podium finishers (HAM, VET, VER).

The race saw Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport driver Lewis Hamilton start from pole position to lead all the laps of the Chinese Grand Prix and take the chequered flag for P1. Teammate Valtteri Bottas started from P3 on the grid but had an unlucky spin during the race and finished in P6.

Lewis’ 2-stop strategy earned him his fifth Shanghai win as he started the race with Intermediates, then changed to a set of Soft tyres and pitted for the last time for another set of Softs on Lap 37. With this last set of tyres, Lewis set the fastest lap of 1:35.378 on Lap 44.

There were a total of 54 overtakes (10 with DRS), and five drivers failed to finish the Chinese Grand Prix. Two of the DNFs (Did Not Finish) led to the introduction of a Virtual Safety Car (VSC) and four laps under the Safety Car (SC).

Following his win, Lewis Hamilton (43) is now tied in 1st place in the Drivers’ Championship with Sebastian Vettel (43). Valtteri Bottas (23) is in P4. In the Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport (66) has regained the lead with just one point ahead of Ferrari (65).
