Perfect 1-2 finish for Mercedes at the British GP!

What a perfect British Grand Prix! Despite the drama on the final laps, the Pure Pit Wall correctly predicted the podium finishers (HAM, BOT, RAI).

Lewis Hamilton had a superb home race weekend to clinch pole position on Saturday and lead the race from start to finish on Sunday. This is his fourth British Grand Prix win in a row at Silverstone and fifth in total, equalling Jim Clark and Alain Prost’s record.

His teammate Valtteri Bottas started the race in P9 following a five-place grid penalty. However, he drove a fantastic race and overtook four cars to finish the race in P2 and successfully achieve the team’s second 1-2 finish in 2017.

There were a total of 56 overtakes during this year’s British Grand Prix, 21 of those happening with DRS.

Lewis’ strategy meant that he only went into the pits once to change from a set of Supersoft tyres to a set of Softs on Lap 25. On this last set of tyres, Lewis set the Fastest Lap on Lap 48 with a 1:30.621.

The safety car was deployed from Laps 2 to 4 following a collision at the start of the race.

Lewis’ (176) top performance at his home GP means that he is now just one point behind Sebastian Vettel (177) in the Drivers’ Championship, while Valtteri is only 23 points off the top in P3 (154).

Following Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport’s domination (330), they now lead the Constructors’ Championship by 55 points ahead of Ferrari (275).
