Superb 1-2 finish for Mercedes in Italy!
What a superb 1-2 finish for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport in Italy. The Pure Pit Wall correctly predicted the podium finishers (HAM, BOT, VET).
Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport driver Lewis Hamilton started from a record-breaking 69th pole, while Valtteri had a tough qualifying session to start in P4.
However, both the strategy and the handling of the cars from both drivers meant that it was a perfect race for the team, as Lewis crossed the line in P1 and Valtteri in P2.
Lewis started the race on a set of Supersoft tyres and only made one stop on Lap 33 for a set of Soft tyres until the end of the race.
Valtteri made a total of 3 overtakes throughout the race, to go up through the field and secure a top 1-2 for the team. Throughout the race, there were a total of 61 overtakes (18 with DRS).
The Fastest Pit Lane Time was also secured by Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport as both Lewis and Valtteri recorded the same 23.7s stops. Top performance team!
Lewis’ (238) win in Monza means that he now takes the lead in the Drivers’ Championship with 3 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel (235). Valtteri (197) stays strong in P3.
With the 1-2 finish, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport’s (435) lead at the top of the Constructors’ Championship has now increased to 62 points ahead of Ferrari (373).
