Surprise double podium for Mercedes in Singapore!
What an unpredictable Singapore Grand Prix and a top double podium finish for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport. The Pure Pit Wall correctly predicted the podium finishers (HAM, RIC, BOT).
Both Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, started from P5 and P6 on the grid respectively at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
However, by the first lap, Lewis was already in P1 and Valtteri in P5 following a first corner crash between both the Ferrari drivers and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
This saw the introduction of the safety car until Lap 5 when the cars were back racing again.
The safety car came back out on Laps 11-13 and 38-41 following separate incidents on the track.
Lewis started the race on a set of Intermediate tyres and pitted under the first safety car on Lap 3 for another set of Intermediates. He then changed to a set of Ultrasoft tyres as the track conditions were improving on Lap 30.
There were a total of 46 overtakes (2 with DRS) throughout the whole Singapore Grand Prix and a total of eight retirements.
Lewis clocked the Fastest Pit Lane Time with a 24.3s stop and he also secured the Fastest Lap of the race on Lap 55 with a 1:45.008.
With Lewis (264) winning the race and Vettel (235) getting a DNF, the Brit now leads the Drivers’ Championship by 28 points ahead of the German. Valtteri is strong in P3, with just 23 points behind Vettel.
The double podium finish for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport (475) increases their lead at the top of the Constructors’ Championship to 102 points ahead of Ferrari (373).
