Mercedes seal the Constructors’ Championship and Hamilton wins in Austin!
What a fantastic United States Grand Prix! Lewis Hamilton started from Pole and won in Austin for the fourth time, with teammate Valtteri Bottas finishing P5 to give Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport enough championship points to seal the 2017 Constructors’ Championship title!
Both drivers got a clean getaway off the line but Vettel was able to sneak up the inside of Lewis into Turn 1. By Lap 7, Lewis managed to retake the lead with Valtteri Bottas holding strong in P3 with RIC and RAI chasing behind.
Both drivers started the race on a set of the pink #DriveForTheCure Susan G. Komen charity edition pink Ultrasoft tyres. Valtteri was first to pit stop on Lap 18 for a set of Soft tyres and Lewis switched to Softs the next Lap, which carried him to the end of the race.
Valtteri had to make another stop for the Ultrasoft tyre on Lap 52 due to heavy tyre degradation, causing him to drop to P5.
There were a staggering 64 overtakes clocked by Pure Pit Wall during the race including 25 with DRS and 2 for the lead.
Sebastian Vettel got the Fastest Lap of the race with a 1:37.766, which he clocked on Lap 51 and Valtteri Bottas topped the fastest total pit lane time of 23.2s.
After the United States Grand Prix, Lewis is now one step closer to a fourth Drivers’ World Championship title, extending his lead on Vettel by 66 points (331) and Valtteri is still in P3 overall, 21 points behind Vettel (244).
Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport now lead Ferrari by 147 points (575) in Constructors’ Championship and have officially sealed the 2017 Championship win.
