Another double podium in Bahrain for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport

Another double podium finish for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport in an exhilarating Bahrain Grand Prix!

Valtteri Bottas started from third on the grid and came home in P2 at the chequered flag, just 0.7s shy of the win. Lewis Hamilton started in ninth after a five place grid penalty and was able to fight through the pack to finish P3.

This podium was Valtteri’s 14th with the team and Lewis’ 70th. It was also Lewis’ 27th consecutive top 10 finish, equaling Kimi Raikkonen’s all-time record.

Both Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport drivers opted for a one stop strategy, with Valtteri boxing first for fresh Supersoft tyres on Lap 22 and Lewis opted for a long run and boxed on Lap 51 for a new set of Soft tyres.

There were a staggering 86 overtakes clocked on Pure Pit Wall, 31 with DRS, 55 without, which is testament to the fantastic racing in the desert on Sunday.

Valtteri Bottas clocked the Fastest Lap of the race with a 1:33.740 on Lap 22 and Lewis Hamilton’s fastest lap came on Lap 51 with a 1:33.953.

Despite three DNFs and the Virtual Safety Car emerging on Lap 2 – 4 the Safety Car did not appear in the year’s race after four Safety Car Laps in the race last year.

After the 2018 Bahrain Grand Prix Sebastian Vettel (50 points) leads the Drivers’ Championship by 17 points from Lewis (33 points) in P2, with Valtteri (22 points) in P3.

Ferrari (65 points) leads Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport (55 points) by 10 points in the Constructors’ Championship.
